| One of the first steps to good bird identification is to
know the basic parts of a bird. In most field guides, these terms will
be referred to often in the process of bird identification. The color
of the bird is very important, and one of the first characteristics you will
notice. Size is also very important when trying to identify a bird,
and is stated in inches or centimeters. Bill size and shape, and tail
shape with the presence of spots or bands is also a major deciding factor.
